Just to add drama to the situation, I got the prostate cancer diagnosis the day after our 37th wedding anniversary and the day before our twin grandson’s 1st birthday. I had no knowledge of the VIP or any other surgery except the open surgery, but it only took me 12 hours to decide that I would have surgery for treatment, because I wanted to see Ian and Eric graduate from college. While one local doctor assured me that my cancer was quite curable through surgery, I knew I was facing a challenge in the surgery and the outcome, and I lived with this prospect for a month after receiving the diagnosis.
Please try to imagine, then, my joy and relief to learn of the VIP option, and the succeeding waves of relief and assurance as Molly gave me my HFHS MRN on my first call, and then as Arleeta and Terri expertly handled my paperwork and answered all my questions, and when you called me and accepted me for the surgery. I also talked with Dr. Sarles and Andrea as each stage of the process brought new questions and new anxiety, such as being asked to get a scan done just before we left for Michigan. During this entire time, the thoughtfulness and responsiveness of the VUI staff was unparalleled. I felt at times as if I were your only patient, and that you were doing all this just for me. The compassion, love and understanding you and your people showed went way beyond any meaning encompassed by the word “professionalism.” And, of course, the care carried on through the surgery and post-operative (I won’t forget Brad’s superb work at discharge) and continues to this day in the recovery period.
I am very pleased by my recovery progress, and I am beginning to understand just how fortunate and exceptional VIP patients are. My friends ask me how I’m doing, and I just tell them, with a touch of humor, “I have less and less to complain about every day.” If I really told them how I felt, about my hope and the gratitude I feel, I’d just get all choked up, just like Nancy and I did when Andrea handed me my pathology report with her words of assurance.
As compensation for my cancer, God gave me this powerful positive experience with the Vattikuti institute. So I say thank you.

After considerable research, review of recommendations, and contact with a recent patient, the decision to select the VUI over other nationally recognized urological centers was an easy one. Once committed, the ease with which the staff handled all inquiry, logistic, insurance, briefing, and follow-up matters was unparalleled in my experience, and a welcome antidote to the natural anxieties following a cancer diagnosis.
My October 2005 experience with the VUI team surpassed my high expectations, from Dr. Menon’s warm reception and considerable expertise through my hospital stay and follow-up procedures. Discomfort was minimal, continence excellent following catheter removal one week later, and cancer results all I could hope for.
With personal gratitude, I salute Dr. Menon’s team, and without any reservations whatsoever endorse the VUI as the best of the best.

I traveled to Detroit from Wheaton, Illinois, for prostate surgery. My home is approximately eight blocks from Central DuPage Hospital, which has the facilities to perform the daVinci robotic surgery. I came to Henry Ford because of the reputation and experience of Dr. Menon.
Again, thank you for your support of the Institute’s prostate program.

My wife and I both appreciated the extra time you shared with us and we were in awe of your humility and the edification you gave to all of those who surround you. It’s nice to be around those that believe in the power of synergy, but you need to know that you are the key ingredient that attracts the talent and constantly keeps the dream alive in those that you empower to help you care for you patients.
