Radical Prostatectomy
A radical prostatectomy is the surgical removal of the prostate and surrounding tissues. This treatment has long been recognized as one of the most effective forms of therapy for prostate cancer. A conventional radical prostatectomy involves an open incision across the abdomen. A laparoscopic radical prostatectomy is performed through a small incision and guided by cameras.
Dr. Mani Menon introduced a robot-assisted version of a radical prostatectomy that is both less invasive and more precise. This procedure is known as the Vattikuti Institute Prostatectomy (VIP) and uses the da Vinci™ robot.
