Preventing Incontinence
When the prostate is removed, one of the two muscles that normally controls urination also is removed. The second muscle will compensate for the first muscle over time. Most men have mild to moderate urinary leakage that may last from 6-12 months. It is not unusual for up to 30% of men to have urinary leakage of about one-to-two teaspoons per day that can be controlled with pads.
The majority of the patients who've undergone Dr. Menon's robotic radical prostatectomy have had total urinary control within 24 hours of removal of the suprapubic tube. In other words, patients undergoing the Dr. Menon's procedure regain continence much faster than patients undergoing conventional surgery.
