Can I Have Sex After Prostate Surgery?
Success in maintaining an erection after a prostatectomy depends on many factors, including a patient’s age, his overall health and his sexual function prior to surgery. Surgery does not affect sexual desire, but it can take up to 24 months to make a full recovery and return to normal sexual function.
Dr. Mani Menon’s treatment goal is to return his patients to their normal routine as soon as possible. He uses a nerve-sparing technique during prostatectomy surgery. Afterward, patients are put on a pharmacological regimen to sustain the blood vessels and muscles responsible for erection.
